Troubleshooting SlopeScout

Quick fixes for frequent issues faced by SlopeScout users

If you encounter issues while using SlopeScout, this guide can help you resolve common problems and get your analysis back on track. Below are the most frequent issues users face and how to address them.

Page timeout

Issue:

  • After being inactive for a while, the page times out, and your session is no longer active.

Solution:

  • If you receive a timeout message, simply log in again using your WSRB account credentials. To prevent this issue, save your work regularly and avoid long periods of inactivity.

Tip: If the timeout occurs while running a report, your progress may be lost. It's a good idea to keep a backup of any input details before running an analysis.

Report won't generate

Issue:

  • The report fails to generate, and no results are shown.

Solution:

  • If the bounding box is too small to cover the entire building footprint, you will receive an alert stating: "The selected building must be within the bounding box borders."
  • To resolve this, make sure the Box Width and Box Length values are large enough to encompass the full area of the building. You can adjust the values using the sliders or manually input the dimensions.

Pop-up blocker prevents report from opening

Issue:

  • After clicking "Run Analysis," the report doesn’t appear because pop-up windows are blocked in your browser.

Solution:

  • Disable any pop-up blockers you have enabled in your browser settings.
  • Alternatively, click the analysis button in the lower right corner of your screen to manually open the report.

Tip: Ensure that your browser settings allow pop-ups from the WSRB site to avoid this issue in the future.

Incorrect address or location

Issue:

  • The wrong property or location is displayed after searching for an address.

Solution:

  • Double-check the format of the address. If the issue persists, verify that the property exists in public databases and is accurately mapped.
  • Alternatively, you can select a property by navigating the map interface and clicking on the property you’d like to run a report on.

Tip: You can also try adjusting the search terms by removing abbreviations or street types (e.g., “Ave” or “St”) to yield more results.

Report takes too long to generate

Issue:

  • The report generation is taking longer than expected or appears to be stuck.

Solution:

  • Check your internet connection and ensure it's stable. Sometimes, slow connections can cause delays in report generation.
  • If the issue persists, try refreshing the page and re-running the analysis.

Note: On average, individual lookups take under one minute with a good internet connection.

Tip: If you’re running a batch lookup (multiple addresses), reports may take longer to generate. Consider running individual reports for faster results.

Changes to Rotation, Box Width, or Box Length aren’t saved

Issue:

  • After adjusting the Rotation, Box Width, or Box Length, the values seem to reset to default without saving.

Solution:

  • Make sure to click "Run Analysis" after making any changes to these settings. If you navigate away from the page or select another building without running the analysis, the adjustments won’t be saved.

Tip: Always review your settings before running the analysis to ensure the changes have been applied.
