Preparing for a Protection Class Evaluation: Fire Marshal

Prior to your community's Protection Class evaluation, WSRB will request documentation about your fire prevention, inspection, public education, and fire investigation programs.


 This article outlines the information you'll need to submit.

What you'll receive

Prior to the evaluation, you'll receive an email from WSRB outlining the documents requested for your fire marshal's office.

Gather the requested information and reply to the email with the requested documentation attached.

Required documentation

Please provide the following information:

Department Roster

Provide a current roster showing, for each department member:

  • Rank
  • Position
  • Years of experience
  • Certifications

Training Records

Provide training records for department personnel from the previous calendar year. 

Fire & Life Safety Inspection Program

Provide an overview of your inspection program, including:

  • Number of businesses within the jurisdiction
  • Number of inspections completed during each of the last five years

Fire Protection System Confidence Testing

Provide an overview of how confidence testing for fire protection systems is tracked, along with a report showing:

  • Types of systems tracked
  • Current status of systems
  • Number of systems being monitored

Fire Safety Education

Provide a summary of your public fire safety education program, including:

  • Personnel involved
  • Their qualifications
  • A list of education events conducted during the last five years

Fire Investigation Program

Provide information about your fire investigation program, including:

  • Investigators and their qualifications
  • Total number of fires each year
  • Number of fires investigated during each of the last five years

Submit your documents

Once you've gathered the requested documentation, attach the files to your reply to the original WSRB evaluation request email.



Whenever possible, submit reports in their original electronic format to help streamline the review process.
