Some addresses in SlopeScout may lack building footprints due to incomplete data, recent construction, or unmapped structure types.
If you’ve entered a valid address into SlopeScout and no building footprint appears, you won’t be able to generate a slope report. That’s because SlopeScout creates a bounding box—your area of analysis—centered on the building footprint. Without a footprint, there’s no defined area to analyze.

In this article, we will cover:
Common reasons for missing footprints
SlopeScout relies on a statewide dataset of parcels and building footprints. While the data is extensive, there are a few common reasons why a footprint might be missing:
-
Recently constructed buildings may not yet appear in the dataset.
-
Rural or undeveloped areas can have gaps in coverage.
-
Certain structure types (like sheds or garages) may not meet the criteria for inclusion.
What you can do
Help us improve the tool by letting us know when a footprint is missing. Your input helps us track data gaps and work with our partners on improving coverage.
